Position Summary

Lab Technicians perform a variety of routine, technical, and administrative responsibilities in support of research at the university. They perform duties such as the following: collecting specimens, preparing materials, operating and maintaining equipment, ordering lab supplies, and maintaining inventory.

Our laboratory studies abnormal post-transcriptional/translational gene regulation, oncogenic signaling cascades, the impact of rewired cellular energy homeostasis on the translational apparatus and how they can be exploited for targeted therapy in Hematologic Malignancies (Bhalla, Scientific Reports 2018; Kapadia, Nature Communication 2018; Bhalla, Scientific Reports 2020, Kapadia, Mol Cancer Res, 2022) Interested candidates must possess, a recent MS/Ph.D. with relevant experience in mouse husbandry and molecular biology.

The Laboratory Technician position involves working in a lab that studies abnormal post-transcriptional/translational gene regulation, oncogenic signaling cascades, the impact of rewired cellular energy homeostasis on the translational apparatus and how they can be exploited for targeted therapy in Hematologic Malignancies (Bhalla, Scientific Reports 2018; Kapadia, Nature Communication 2018; Bhalla, Scientific Reports 2020, Kapadia, Mol Cancer Res, 2022) Interested candidates must possess, a recent MS/Ph.D. with relevant experience in mouse husbandry and molecular biology. The Lab technician will work on Animal Colony Maintenance and collaborate with other lab members for generating the required number of rodents for their experimentation. Lab work includes: genotyping, basic cell culture, standard Mol Bio techniques for cloning, bacterial expression optimization and protein purification. Responsibilities include: helping the PI and lab members with specific lab-oriented tasks, preparing documents for SRS, IBC and others as needed. It includes reporting documentation to needed committees for smooth functioning of the lab, and collaborating with other lab members, as needed. As lab manager, you will organizing lab meetings, coordinate lab ordering (both at Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center and VCU) and maintain the laboratory budget.

Core Responsibilities-

Animal Husbandry (40%):

-Animal Colony Maintenance
-Collaborating with other lab members for generating the required number of rodents for their experimentation
-Genotyping

Lab Manager (15%):
-Organizing lab meetings
-Lab ordering (both at Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center and VCU)
-Taking care of the budget

Laboratory work (35%):
-Basic cell culture
-Standard Mol Bio techniques for cloning
-Bacterial expression optimization and protein purification

Other Responsibility (10%):
-Help PI and lab members with specific lab-oriented tasks.
-Preparing documents for SRS, IBC and other as needed.
-Other Miscellaneous task (liq Nitrogen tank refill, IHC slides/blocks catalogue maintenance, indenting of lab reagents etc.)
-Helping and reporting the documents to numerous committees for smooth functioning of the lab
-Collaborating with the other lab members as needed.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

-Bachelors of science degree with documented experience in molecular biology and genetics, or equivalent
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
-Relevant experience in Animal husbandry and Molecular biology techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master of Science degree preferred with 3-5 years of prior experience working in a research environment is preferred
-PhD biomedical sciences
