The Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking applications for Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery. This unique opportunity consists of a full-time UW faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor WOT (without tenure by reason of funding) providing plastic and reconstructive surgery care at Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center, Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Children’s Hospital.  UW Medicine is one of the world’s premier academic health centers serving the Pacific Northwest and WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho).  The UW plastic surgery program is a national and international leader in clinical outcomes, education and research. 

 

The successful candidate will maintain a clinical practice in plastic surgery (or subspecialty) while participating in the education of surgical residents, medical students, and fellows. This position will be expected to enhance the research vision for the division and provide academic and clinical leadership to division faculty consisting of 18 plastic surgeons and 3 advanced practice providers.  This position will provide strategic clinical and educational operational leadership to the health system. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington is commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The anticipated start date is Spring/Summer 2025.At the rank of Associate Professor (WOT), the base salary range for this position will be: $37,500 - $40,000 per month ($450,000 - $480,000 annually). At the rank of Professor (WOT), the base salary range for this position will be: $44,167 - $54,167 monthly ($530,004 - $650,004 annually). Base salaries at all ranks will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the practice plan (UWP/adult or CUMG/pediatric), in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include variable incentive through the practice plan and an Administrative Supplement for the Division leadership position. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

A successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in plastic surgery with seven or more years in practice and evidence of excellent clinical outcomes, an MD (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified (or foreign equivalent) in plastic surgery, successful completion of a relevant subspecialty plastic surgery fellowship, and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.  The successful candidate will have prior expertise in leadership as measured by mentorship of others and leadership positions in their health system and/or national organizations.

 

 

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
