LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER

The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track lecturer position starting August 1, 2024, at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. The position's primary responsibility will be teaching general education introductory physics and astronomy courses, laboratories, and some higher-level courses based on department need. This non-tenure-track position is renewable, contingent upon evidence of excellent teaching, demand for instruction, and availability of funds, and comes with full benefits. The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
Qualifications
Applicants who wish to be appointed to the level of Lecturer must hold a Master's or Ph.D. (with preference of the latter) degree in Physics or a related field awarded no later than August 1, 2024. For those wishing to be considered at the level of Senior Lecturer, a Master's or Ph.D. (with preference of the latter) in Physics or closely related field is required combined with at least 7 years of experience teaching physics at the undergraduate level.
For both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, the successful candidate will have experience teaching introductory physics courses at the undergraduate level. The candidate should be able to develop engaging detailed lectures with homework assignments, help with the development of laboratories, and provide timely feedback to students. The candidate should also be able to work collaboratively with other faculty members in the department and with the graduate laboratory instructors. The ideal candidate will have experience with online teaching platforms such as Blackboard or Canvas. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills and be able to engage students in vibrant discussions.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, offers competitive salaries and has a career ladder for non-tenure-track lecturers with opportunities for professional development including the possibility of department support to attend disciplinary conferences. After five years of full-time service, lecturers are eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer; Senior Lecturers may be offered multi-year appointments.
