The Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies (KRSS) prepares scholars, practitioners, and leaders in physical activity, sport, and recreation by conducting cutting-edge research, and maintaining a commitment to inclusive excellence, social justice, and global initiatives. KRSS is home to 28 faculty members and 9 staff members who serve nearly 2,000 undergraduate majors and over 150 graduate students. KRSS is seeking to hire a creative, dynamic, and exceptional instructor for a nine-month, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice position. The position begins August 1, 2024. The successful candidate will be able to actively support the growing undergraduate Kinesiology program.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent teaching, primarily in our undergraduate Kinesiology curriculum. Presently, we are seeking a candidate that could provide engaging, organized, and evidence-based instruction with the ability to teach in one or more subdisciplines (Biomechanics; Exercise Physiology; Sport Psychology; Motor Behavior) and/or teach other courses as assigned, based on the candidate's area of expertise. Candidates with a clinical background (e.g., physical or occupational therapy) are strongly encouraged to apply. Additionally, the successful applicant will engage in service activities at the department, college, and university level. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a 4/4 course load (4 courses each Fall/Spring semester). Summer teaching (supported with supplemental salary) is also an option with this position.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

- Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or related area of study. Candidates with a clinical background must also hold a doctoral degree.

- With assurance from the dissertation chair, an applicant who will have their Ph.D. conferred prior to August 1, 2024 will be considered.

- Demonstrated ability to contribute to and support a department climate that embraces access and engagement

- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

- Experience teaching undergraduate courses, including courses with labs. Instructional experience could be in one or more subdisciplines, such as Biomechanics; Exercise Physiology; Sport Psychology; Motor Behavior or other similar areas or combinations thereof.

- Experience coordinating Graduate Teaching Assistants.

- Experience teaching in online, hybrid, and face-to-face modalities

- Knowledge of evidence-based teaching approaches that integrate research, practice, and application toward a variety of allied healthcare and exercise-based careers.

- Experience with curriculum planning

- Demonstrated commitment to student mentoring/advising
