The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment as a Veterinary Parasitologist in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville: https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/academics/biomedical-and-diagnostic-sciences/
The position will be offered at the rank of assistant or associate professor, in either a tenure or clinical (non-tenure) academic track, dependent on the individual's qualifications and goals. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We are seeking candidates who can contribute to the collegial, inclusive, and accessible environment of the University. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic parasitology team that includes one other parasitologist and 2 full-time technicians. They will be expected to provide high quality diagnostic service, teach in the veterinary curriculum, and engage in scientific advancement commensurate with their research effort allocation. The position will have a significant commitment to the diagnostic parasitology service and teaching in the professional (DVM) curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include shared participation in a core parasitology course and a clinical rotation, with other optional opportunities. Diagnostic service responsibilities will include: interpretation of laboratory test results; consultation with veterinarians regarding test results, diagnostic testing procedures, and treatment options; and leadership involvement in all laboratory initiatives, including continuous quality improvement and test development.
The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have: (1) a DVM or PhD in parasitology; (2) post-graduate experience and/or a strong documented interest in veterinary parasitology; (3) excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial, team atmosphere; (4) teaching experience at the graduate or professional (DVM, MD, etc) level and enthusiasm for teaching in veterinary parasitology. Preference will be given to those with 1) a DVM degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school and 2) one or more years of experience in diagnostic veterinary parasitology.
Candidates for Assistant Professor (tenure or clinical track) should have a demonstrated potential to succeed as a junior faculty at a veterinary school. Candidates for Associate Professor (tenure track) should have a demonstrated record of publishing in appropriate journals, securing and executing externally funded research, and internal and external service to their professional community. Candidates for Associate Professor (clinical track) should have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and service, as well as scholarly activity.
