The Assistant Director for Suicide Education and Prevention's primary responsibility will be the implementation and development of suicide prevention programs, trainings, and campaigns to promote help seeking behavior and community awareness of warning signs, resources, and response for suicidal individuals. All training, community partnerships, and daily efforts will be the responsibility of this position. This Assistant Director is responsible for researching and establishing best practices in the areas of mental health and suicide prevention and education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management
Manage a campus wide suicide prevention program which utilizes comprehensive, collaborative, well-coordinated, and evidence-based approach to: enhance mental health services for UTC students, including those at risk for suicide, depression, serious mental illness (SMI)/serious emotional disturbances (SED), and/or substance use disorders that can lead to school failure; prevent mental and substance use disorders; promote help-seeking behavior and reduce negative public attitudes; and improve the identification and treatment of at-risk UTC students so they can successfully complete their degree; serve as assigned by the Director, the Dean of Students office and the Chief Health Affairs Officer on appropriate committees.
Assessment/Planning
Develop, facilitate, and report program outcomes for mental health education and suicide prevention programs and trainings for UTC community members; conduct an individual and campus community needs assessment in relationship to trends within our campus community for suicide, depression and serious mental illness including satisfaction with the services rendered through campus departments. Identify any services not addressed on the campus; review current data pertaining to suicide, depression and serious mental illness identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for outreach for the campus community; based on these data develop short- and long-term goals measuring achievement in the areas of suicide, depression and serious mental illness creating a plan for implementation.
Outreach
Based on the campus needs assessment develop outreach programming; focus programming on SMI/SED and substance use disorders, including suicidal behavior, substance-related injuries, and school failure.
Collaboration
Collaborate with various UTC student groups, departments, and services to develop and provide services; work with community partners to enhance access to funding, resources, and evidenced-based prevention strategies and prevention efforts.
Dissemination
Help manage the Center's social media accounts and other forms of communication, promoting events and creating educational programming for these platforms; assist with the implementation of other CSW programs as needed; generate and distribute reports for EMSA and the university as evidence of the effectiveness of programming.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Ability to plan, organize and coordinate large-scale events and programs.
· Excellent computer skills including Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Adobe software.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to write learning objectives and measure student attainment.
· Ability to work with limited budgets and can make recommendations regarding allocating funds where needed.
· Ability to develop and implement assessment strategies and reports.
· Knowledge and skills in grant writing and management.
· Experience working within a collegiate population is preferred.
· Excellent skills in conducting health education on social media platforms

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; four years of relevant experience in an educational environment or a closely-related setting; work as a Graduate Assistant may be considered as applying toward the years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: An advanced degree with at least two years of experience; experience working as part of a case management or treatment team; experience with state or federal grants; prior employment within an institution of higher education.
