The Office of Research at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Senior Project Scientist (full-time, 12 months) position. This position conducts and supervises basic and applied research in the areas of modeling, simulation, data analytics, and visualization. The incumbent may serve as principal investigator or co-principal investigator for sponsored research projects. The position includes demonstrated experience in supporting THIRAs, cost-benefit analysis, portfolio resource allocation, experience in data analytics in support of homeland security at the local, regional and state-level emergency management.
Position requires demonstrated experience in the following areas:
- Gis
- Hazus
- Web-enable database application development to include scripting with software such as File Maker Pro and Qualtrics
Required Education: Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with experience equivalent to a master’s degree in a related field of study.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience related to research or program/project management in a University or research center
- Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct independent research including opportunity identification, proposal preparation and award management as a project manager or principal investigator
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to policies, procedures, and methods to fit unusual or complex situations
- Judgment to set priorities evaluates results, and coordinates work with others
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to prepare written correspondence, technical reports, proposals, and other pertinent documents as they relate to research
- Demonstrate ability to organize and facilitate workshops
