The Nelson County Board of Supervisors is seeking interested and qualified applicants for the following position:
Position: Full-Time Permit Technician
Department: Building Inspections
Hiring Range: $30,863 - $35,680
Closing Date: Until Filled
Responsibilities include assisting the public by phone and in person; processing building, erosion and sediment control, and well and septic permits, including data and fee collection; creating and maintaining records of appointment schedules for staff; maintaining client files, preparing correspondence, compiling data and preparing departmental reports; maintaining office supply inventory and ordering supplies; and preparing written price quote solicitations as needed.
Candidates should have a working knowledge of PC applications, permit application processes, Nelson County geography, road systems, and landmarks. Experience using AS400/Bright and Associates building inspections module and iWorQ software is preferred. The ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public in oral and written form, type and spell accurately, perform basic mathematical computations, prioritize and multitask job duties are essential for the successful candidate. Must have the ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner. Knowledge of construction and Building Code terminology and requirements is desired.
High school education or GED equivalent is required, two-year college education is preferred. ICC Permit Technician certification is required or may be obtained within 18 months of hire date. Costs of certification courses and testing fees will be paid by the County. Excellent benefits package offered.
