Lead Windows Systems Engineer
The Information Technology Department at James Madison University (JMU) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the JMU team as a Lead Windows System Engineer. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to provide leadership and supervision to a team of Windows/O365 and VMWare Administrators and to ensure that systems are available to support the needs of the University community.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Provides leadership and supervision to the Windows, MS O365, and virtualization teams and ensures proper staffing is available to support system installation, upgrade and maintenance activities.
Works cooperatively with IT and non-IT departments to achieve project timelines, goals and objectives
Serves as a Systems Administrator for Windows systems and O365. Duties include managing system installations and upgrades; making system configuration changes; monitoring system performance; applying system OS, application, and hardware patches.
Provides support to the JMU Computing customers and helps to ensure that user expectations are understood and met whenever possible.
Required:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Experience leading and working on complex project implementations
- Knowledge and skills required for installing and supporting Windows server operating systems
- Experience working with virtual environments;
- Experience with Windows security methods
- Experience with Microsoft O365 environment
- Excellent customer service skills
Preferred:
- Experience working with enterprise monitoring systems, scripting/programming and network storage systems
- Knowledge, skills and abilities required for preparing and presenting formal and informal written and oral presentations of a technical nature, as well as using and understanding written, oral and visual technical material
