James Madison University Foundation, Inc. (the Foundation) is a 501©(3) not-for-profit organization, formed to promote the achievement and further the aims and purposes of James Madison University (the University). The Foundation accomplishes its purposes through fundraising and funds management efforts to benefit the University and its programs. A substantial portion of the Foundation's revenue and support is received in the form of private gifts from alumni and friends of the University. The Foundation Accountant will support accurate financial reporting within the Foundation.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage Cash Deposits and Gift Reporting
On a daily basis, accurately compile and prepare for posting into the?Foundation's accounting?system non-gift deposits and gift deposits. Reconcile daily gift deposit entries to information reported directly by Advancement Gifts and Records (AGR). Inform CEO and CFO of gifts of $100,000 or greater.?
General Ledger Maintenance
Maintain the integrity of the Foundation's general ledger to ensure that the general ledger is compliant with Financial Accounting Standards Board pronouncements and industry guidelines. Document and prepare journal entries for review and approval. Reconcile financial activity, ensuring that reconciling
items are documented and proposed entries prepared. Prepare internal reporting as requested by management.
Communication with University Departments
Resolve daily gift reconciliation and classification issues with Advancement Gifts and Records (AGR). Coordinate with University Advancement, as necessary, to ensure gift and pledge activity is consistent with donor intent.
Data Maintenance
Preserve the integrity of Foundation data. Regularly reconcile key data points among Foundation systems and update existing data as changes occur. Support data consistency among systems.
Audit Assistance/Other Duties
Assist in the preparation for and conduct of the Foundation's annual independent audit, assist in communications to the Foundation's Board of Trustees and minute preparation, and provide exceptional customer service to constituents such as donors, university faculty and staff, and board members.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Access
- Strong communication skills
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or CPA eligible
- Knowledge and experience working with relational databases
Pay Rate: Commensurate with Experience.
