Accounting Specialist

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is seeking a self-directed and team-oriented Accounting Specialist to handle and process all accounts payables and receivables functions, including recording transactions and accruals, and prepare weekly payments of invoices.
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for the timely payment of BRAFB obligations through the accounts payable system and for the accurate recording in the general ledger; preparing deposits of agency payments and posting payments to agency accounts in Ceres; oversees monthly printing and mailing of agency statements; performs bi-weekly data entry of payroll information into ADP payroll system, and verifies staff time sheet calculations and payroll registers. Other general fiscal support includes maintaining monthly spreadsheet for inventory activity, maintaining a petty cash fund along with preparing reports for reimbursement of petty cash complete with supporting receipts and preparing supporting schedules for general ledger accounts in Excel.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Minimum Associate degree in accounting, business administration or related field or equivalent amount of relevant training and/or experience
• Minimum three years' experience in accounting or bookkeeping organizing, reconciling, and processing accounts payables and receivables and other accounting related duties
• Minimum two years' experience in payroll administration and processing
• Accounting and payroll software data entry, reporting and database management experience preferably ADP and Microsoft Dynamics based ERP system
• Skill in the operation of computers with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Adobe Pro and proficiency in accounting / payroll systems such as Ceres and ADP
• Strong attention to detail and ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines;
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with other team members;
• Position may be required to work occasional evening or weekends based on the needs of the food bank.
