Description

Ball State University's Department of English invites applications for a tenure- track position in TESOL/linguistics available August 2024.

Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), advising MA research projects, engaging in departmental and university service, working with local schools and community partners, and collaborating across departments and colleges at BSU that support teacher training.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education or related field expected from an accredited college or university by time of appointment; evidence of scholarly productivity demonstrated by at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal; record of effective teaching English as a second language.

Authorization to work in the US

Employer will consider sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • K-12 teaching experience
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • English as a new language (ENL), second language (SLA), English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching experience
  • Expertise in at least one area of linguistics: morphology and syntax, phonetics and phonology, sociolinguistics, multilingualism and/or indigenous/minority languages/dialects in the US.
  • Record of scholarship, including publication and/or presentation in primary area(s) of scholarship
  • Record of or potential for external funding
  • Record of building successful partnerships with K-12 schools
  • Expertise in qualitative research methods

The Department of English offers majors and minors in literature, creative writing, professional writing, English education, and applied linguistics, including teacher preparation licenses for English as a New Language; the department also offers graduate programs in many of these areas, including an MA in TESOL and Linguistics. Students in all programs work with creative, dedicated faculty to explore a variety of texts and contexts, with an eye to becoming better writers, more innovative thinkers, and more thoughtful citizens who can engage in a diverse, globalized world.
